Queen’s University Belfast (QUB)

Partner skills

QUB has internationally recognized expertise in structural analysis, structural damage detection and Structural Health Monitoring of civil infrastructure, including monitoring of roads and bridges using a vehicle instrumented with sensors.

Transnational experience

QUB participates in projects involving European cooperation e.g. COST Actions on Quantifying the Value of Structural Health Monitoring (SHM), and Quality specifications for roadway bridges, standardization at a European level. QUB is also involved in multiple USA-Ireland research projects on SHM.

Role in the project

QUB, as an associated partner, will advise on and carry out an instrumented vehicle field test for a road bridge crossing in Ireland.

Activities to implement in the project

QUB will advise on and carry out an instrumented vehicle field test for a road bridge crossing in Ireland. This will involve the following activities: 1. Instrument QUB vehicle as per field test requirement 2. Drive instrumented vehicle across test bridge; test bridge will be sourced in Republic of Ireland (RoI) by RoI project partners, while test will be coordinated and supported by same 3. Acquire and record measurement data from instrumented vehicle; data will be collated and provided to UCD project partner for analysis 4. Collaborative output including co-supervision of a PhD student based at UCD and co-authorship on resulting publications
