The Portuguese test bed will be based in some sections of National Road number 6 (EN6) and of Cascais Train Line. Both of these infrastructures have some sections that are literally on the top of the Atlantic Ocean. Every winter, and due to the floods alone, or combined with sea storms, the water rises over the road, causing not only severe road accidents, but also long roadblocks.

SIRMA
Strengthening infrastructure risk management in the Atlantic Area

SIRMA project aims to develop a robust framework for the management and mitigation of such risks, by implementing immediate, medium and long-term measures, thus increasing the resilience of transportation infrastructure. Most of the transportation of people and goods in Atlantic Area is made through rail and road. The performance of this infrastructure is directly affected by extreme natural events and by the strong corrosion processes that result from proximity to the Atlantic Ocean.
